2Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate. It was so, that when any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him, and said, |What city are you from?| He said, |Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.|
1 It happened after this, that Absalom prepared him a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
2 Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate. It was so, that when any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him, and said, |What city are you from?| He said, |Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.|
3 Absalom said to him, |Behold, your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you.|
4 Absalom said moreover, |Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or cause might come to me, and I would do him justice!|
15:2He would get up early and stand by the side of the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone came with a complaint to be placed before the king for a decision, Absalom would call out to him, "What town are you from?" He would answer, "Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel."
15:2And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city [art] thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
15:2And Absalom rising up early stood by the entrance of the gate, and when any man had business to come to the king's judgment, Absalom called him to him, and said: Of what city art thou? He answered, and said: Thy servant is of such a tribe of Israel.
